HOW WE WORK

In a nutshell, computer 3D animation refers to the work of creating moving pictures in a digital environment that is three-dimensional. Through the careful manipulation of objects (3D models) within state-of-the-art 3D software and talented 3D artists, we can then export pictures sequences which will give the illusion of movement (animation) based on how we manipulate the objects.What happens in animation is that motion is simulated in a way that the eyes tend to believe that actual motion has taken place while the fact is the perceived sense of motion is only because of the consecutive images that are passed through very fast this theory is inherent be it for 3D, 2D or stop motion animation.

 

In 3D animation, everything is done within the computer and exported from the computer. The process of creating 3D animations can be sequentially divided into following phases:

 

  • CONCEPT AND STORYBOARDING

  • MOCK-UP – VISUAL DEVELOPMENT A mock-up, 2D or 3D model design lay-out used for teaching, demonstration, design evaluation, promotion, and other purposes. A mockup is a prototype if it provides at least part of the functionality of a product or system. A mockup is necessary to review look and functionality with the client to avoid expensive change in later steps of the production.

  • 3D MODELLING (CGI - computer generated image) or prop In 3D computer graphics, 3D modelling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any surface of an object (either inanimate or living) in three dimensions via specialised software. The product is called a 3D model. The more general term computer-generated imagery (CGI) encompasses both static scenes and dynamic images, while computer animation only refers to moving images. 

  • SURFACING - TEXTURING - giving clothes to CGIs or prop. Texture mapping is a method for defining high frequency detail, surface texture, or colour information on a computer-generated graphic or 3D model.

 

  • RIGGING, OR SKINNING, refers to the act of weighting a polygon mesh to a skeleton for the purposes of animation. The "mesh" is the skin, and it is stuck to the "bones" of the animation rig, which form a skeleton that can then be manipulated by an animator to pose and animate the model.

 

  • BLOCKING  is an animation technique in which key poses are created to establish timing and placement of characters and props in a given scene or shot.

 

  • ANIMATION   Commonly the effect of animation is achieved by a rapid succession of sequential images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon and beta movement, but the exact causes are still uncertain. 

 

  • LIGHTING   computer graphics lighting - is the collection of techniques used to simulate light in computer graphics scenes. Our team can choose from a variety of light sources, models, shading techniques, and effects to suit the needs of each application.

 

  • CAMERA  setting by default computer animations software provides different cameras perspectives on the CGI,  that let our team view the scene in a panel: the perspective camera and the three orthographic cameras (side, top, front) that correspond to the default scene views. We can look through these cameras (panels) as our model, animate, shade, and texture objects. 

 

  • 3D RENDERING  is the process of producing an image based on three-dimensional data stored within a computer. Rendering is the final process of creating the actual 3D image from the prepared scene. Animations for non-interactive media, such as feature films and video, can take much more time to render. Non real-time rendering enables the leveraging of limited processing power in order to obtain higher image quality. Rendering times for individual frames may vary from a few seconds to several days for complex scenes. 

 

  • COMPOSITING AND SPECIAL VFX  Compositing and visual special effects (VFX) are the combining of visual elements from separate sources into single images, often to create the illusion that all those elements are parts of the same scene.

 

  • MUSIC/AUDIO/VOICE OVER  Adding voice-over, music, sound effects etc. to a 3D animation, needs scripting and clearance of copy right.

  • INFO-GRAPHICS AND CAPTURE  This layer adds capture information or info-graphics elements to your 3D animation.

 

  • EDITING and final rendering. This is the final process of editing all visual and audio sources together to one video file (including final rendering).

 

  • COLOUR GRADING  Final adjustment/mix of colours (overall look).

 

  • DELIVERY  Transfer animation to client (wetransfer.com).

 

Through the combination of the above mentioned phases and a few other sub-phases, this completes the process of the production of a 3D animation.
